Thank You — From the Bottom of My Heart!
This Wednesday was different.
In rescue, the days blur. We’re always moving — reacting, fixing, trying to stay ahead. Sometimes, we pick up a message after a long meeting or the drive home… and it’s already too late.
But every so often, a day lands that makes you stop. A day that reminds you why you started. A day where, because we acted quickly — and because you were there — we weren’t too late.
This Wednesday was one of those days.
Because of you — your kindness, your speed, your generosity — Lana and Mirko are now safe. Two Boxers who were one step away from being lost to us are now held in safety. Protected. Seen. And even more incredibly — you raised well over the £500 we needed to make that happen.
When I onboard dogs into our care, I see what they’ve come through. I see the ones passed from hand to hand, neglected, misused, or simply forgotten. I see the fear in their eyes. I see what happens when no one steps in — when they fall into the wrong hands and no one comes looking.
I see all the photos and videos I dare not ever share. The ones that remind me why “next time” is often too late.
I see the dogs we were too late for the first time. They disappear — passed on, abandoned, chained, or worse. And then, months later, they reappear. We have several of those looking for homes right now.
When we finally get the chance to bring them into our care, they come back carrying the damage: fear, trauma, illness. They’ve been chained, abused, neglected — and it shows. Not just on the outside, but in the way they brace for touch, in how long it takes them to trust again.
And then comes the next hurdle: rehoming them. For all the wonderful homes we carefully vet, we can still struggle for months to find the right match — because the right home for a dog who’s been through that much isn’t easy to find.
That’s why it’s so important we get there first. Why we act before they vanish. Why we prevent the harm instead of trying to patch up what’s left after.
And the hard truth is: we can only do that with funding. Every time you help, you’re not just saving a dog — you’re saving them before the damage is done.
But this week — we did it. You helped me prevent harm before it happened. You helped us step in just in time. And more than that — you reminded me that we’re not doing this alone.
In a world that often looks away, you leaned in. You saw the urgency. You answered the call. You made my Wednesday feel less like a fight, and more like hope.
And thank you for helping me — truly. It was a very long night. But because of you, that moment never came. Because of you, they’re safe.
So, thank you — not just for what you gave, but for what it meant. Thank you for giving Lana and Mirko a future.
My promise to you: I’ll keep going, quietly working behind the scenes, until they’re tucked up safe in loving forever homes.
Scout’s honour. Paw on heart.
This week, we turned fear into safety. We turned “too late” into “just in time.” And we did it — together.
With love and endless gratitude
Russ🐾
